Elderly people feel lonely, as most of the time, other family members are busy or are simply not interested in talking to them.

Working on a sample size of 15,000 older people, the survey by Agewell Foundation says that 47.49 percent of elderly people in India suffer from loneliness.

Living alone was most often cited as the reason for loneliness. According to the Census 2011 data, almost 15 million elderly Indians live all alone, and close to three-fourths of them are women. One in every seven elderly persons in India lives in a household where there is nobody below the age of 60.

People may be living alone but be perfectly content if they have a structure to their day and activities that keep them busy. “On the other hand, you may be in a family or in the midst of people and still feel alone. The loneliness may stem from feeling that no one loves you and you have no one to love either.”

“In small towns, it is easier to socialize – the elderly sit in their gardens and balconies in the morning and evening, and many people come and go. But in the cities, no one visits them because people are busy.” The stress and pressures of the modern world keep the family members busy with their own work and studies.

And when elderly people want to learn new technology, they find it extremely hard as no one teaches them properly with patience, and most of the time, they ended up stop learning new things altogether. People in old age don’t feel empowered as all their talent and skills stop coming to use. People in our society believe that after a certain age and retirement, people should rest and stay at home as pursuing hobbies and interest is still a young age thing. Even in general, there is an absence of friend circles and support groups in the life of the elderly.

So, we are standing up for solving this unseen problem of our society, which comprises the life of elderly people, and our solution will improve the situation by removing boredom and loneliness from their lives by helping them in socializing with their own age group people and providing them opportunities to enjoy this phase of life too.
